Emily Crosby | Child & Educational Psychologist

 

Emily is a HCPC registered Child and Educational Psychologist. After working as an Assistant Educational Psychologist at a Social, Emotional and Mental Health School, Emily completed her professional doctorate at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust. Emily has worked in a range of schools, including primary, secondary and specialist settings, as well as having experience working in CAMHS and Local Authorities. Emily supports children and young people with a range of needs including learning needs, social, emotional and mental health needs and neurodevelopmental conditions. Emily has undertaken research with professionals working with children and young people with mental health difficulties to inform policy and systemic and organisational change. Emily is skilled in supporting individuals with social communication differences such as autism, using a neurodiversity-affirming approach and provides support around understanding their diagnosis, exploring thinking patterns and identifying their unique profile of strengths and needs. In addition, Emily is passionate about using a systemic approach to support children and young people experiencing school attendance difficulties. Emily has most recently worked in private practice to provide emotional regulation and cognitive behaviour therapy support to adolescents struggling with anxiety difficulties. Emily is guided by principles of attachment theory, psychodynamic theory, personal construct psychology and systemic approaches. She utilises a range of approaches in her work with children and young people, including cognitive behavioural, narrative, mindfulness-based and play-based approaches. Emily is skilled in facilitating consultations with the systems around children and young people and uses psychology to make sense of children’s behaviour, helping to shift narratives and promote positive outcomes.
