At our psychiatry and prescribing clinic in London, we offer a bespoke and thoughtful ADHD service, from assessment to post-diagnosis support and prescribing at our London clinic.

What is ADHD?

ADHD is a behavioural disorder characterised by a combination of symptoms including inattentiveness, restlessness and impulsivity.

Many people experience these difficulties to some degree, but for individuals with ADHD the symptoms can have a big impact on day to day life, self-esteem, personal well-being, relationships with others and work performance.

Symptoms of ADHD can start in childhood with difficulties persisting into adulthood, although the presentation may change over time. For some, the condition is not identified or diagnosed until later life, and it can affect both males and females.

Signs of ADHD

ADHD presents differently in every individual, but common signs include difficulties with focus, organisation, emotional regulation, and impulse control – affecting daily life, work, and relationships.

People with ADHD often struggle to maintain attention, especially on tasks that feel repetitive or unengaging, potentially leading to unfinished projects or missed details.
ADHD can make it hard to estimate time accurately, prioritise tasks, and stick to deadlines, often resulting in procrastination or last-minute rushes.
Emotional regulation can be difficult, leading to rapid shifts in mood, frustration, or sensitivity to criticism, sometimes affecting personal and professional relationships.
External noises, interruptions, or even internal thoughts can easily pull attention away from important tasks, making it difficult to stay on track.
Acting without thinking – such as interrupting conversations, making quick decisions without considering consequences, or struggling with impulse control – can be common.
Staying organised can feel overwhelming, leading to clutter, misplaced items, missed appointments, or trouble keeping up with responsibilities at work or home.
From forgetting names and deadlines to misplacing everyday items, memory lapses are common and can impact productivity and daily routines.
The constant challenge of keeping up with tasks, meeting expectations, and managing symptoms can contribute to heightened stress and anxiety over time.

Child ADHD Diagnosis & Treatment

ADHD affects individuals in unique ways and there is no single test or screening tool; a thorough and personalised assessment is essential for an accurate diagnosis.

Our approach includes:

To explore your concerns, review symptoms, and determine if a full ADHD assessment is appropriate. This appointment takes place online between the parent/carer and one of our clinicians.
A 30-minute initial consultation is priced at £100.
If recommended after an initial consultation, our full assessment involves a structured evaluation using evidence-based tools, including the Conners scale and Qb test (an objective, computer based assessment that measures hyperactivity, impulsivity and inattention to aid in the assessment of ADHD). These tools include inputs from a child’s parent or guardian and someone else who knows them (usually a teacher at school). The results will be interpreted and reviewed by one of our experienced Psychiatrists.
You will then attend a detailed 120-minute consultation with the Psychiatrist, reviewing physical health, family history, symptoms, and any past diagnosis and treatments. This appointment will be for both parents and child when someone under the age of 18 is being assessed.
During this appointment you will receive detailed feedback, including a view about whether a diagnosis has been determined from the Psychiatrist. This will be followed by a full written report within two weeks
A full ADHD assessment is priced at £1500.
Your Psychiatrist will consider your individual needs and devise a personalised treatment plan. Although ADHD cannot be ‘cured’, with support it is possible to lessen the impact of many of the symptoms and difficulties experienced.
Possible treatment routes include medication, talking therapies (e.g. CBT) and lifestyle adaptations. A combination of these is usually most effective and your Psychiatrist will talk to you about what best suits your situation.
We may refer you to another professional in our team for further support, for example a psychologist or psychotherapist.
Should you wish to consider medication this will need to be done in a further package of care. We require that this is purchased as a block in order to ensure clinical oversight and effective follow up and support.
A private medication prescription, initial appointment and two follow-up appointments at one month intervals is priced at £1000.

Adult ADHD Diagnosis & Treatment

Our approach includes:

The first step towards getting an adult ADHD Assessment is to fill out a referral form and questionnaire that will be reviewed by our ADHD team.
Once you have completed these, a member of our team will be in touch.
If an adhd assessment is recommended after the initial screening, you will be invited to book your first of two appointments via our reception team.
In this appointment, our trained clinicians will undertake an assessment of the following information: physical health, family history, development & life history, any co-occurring mental health conditions and mental health history. This appointment will last 1 hour.
We will also at this point gather information from an informant i.e. parent, family member, spouse, friend. This can be done either in this assessment with you, or if requested, in a separate appointment. Separate appointments will require an additional 30 minute appointment to be purchased.

ADHD can share symptoms with other conditions, so the purpose of this appointment is to rule out whether your current concerns might be caused by something else. If it becomes clear that another condition is responsible, we will work with you to explore this further and help connect you with the appropriate support
If ADHD appears likely, you will be asked to book your second appointment which will involve a more detailed evaluation of your symptoms. This will be done using the DIVA (semi-structured diagnostic interview) and a Qb Check which is an objective, computer based assessment that measures hyperactivity, impulsivity and inattention to aid in the assessment of ADHD.
At the end of this second appointment the clinician will inform you of the outcome of the assessment.
If you are provided with a diagnosis of ADHD, our clinician will provide you with some support options, and details of our prescribing service if you would like to explore medication options.
Please note that medication will not be discussed in the assessment appointment. Further information on our Prescribing Service can be found in our FAQs.
Following your assessment, after 2 weeks you will be sent a clinical report with further outcome details and recommendations. Your clinician will consider your individual profile of need and symptom management when devising a treatment plan that is completely personalised to you. Your clinician may refer you on for further support, for example to a psychologist or therapist.

ADHD Prescribing Services

This service is available to clients who have received an ADHD diagnosis within our service.

Our ADHD Prescribing Package (£1000) includes:

One 45-minute appointment to discuss medication options
Two 30-minute follow-ups (every 25 days) to monitor and review response and dosage

Please note, we cannot guarantee you will be prescribed medication. A decision will be made by your prescriber based on the outcome of the initial appointment. If medication is not recommended you will be refunded appointments 2 & 3 of the medication package.

If a suitable medication is agreed upon in your initial appointment, a prescription will be processed through our online pharmacy, Cloud RX, and delivered directly to you. The cost of medication is not included in the medication package.

Depending on how the medication and dose suits your child, it may be necessary to continue with further reviews after your final medication package appointment, until an appropriate mediation and dose has been identified and agreed upon. Once a stable dose has been achieved, the review period will be discussed with your prescriber and may be reduced to every 3-6 months.

Please note, the cost of prescriptions are included in the price of medication appointments, however repeat prescriptions are chargeable.

Some GP’s may be happy to take over the prescribing of ADHD medications once a stable dose has been agreed. Please see details of a GP shared care agreement in our ADHD Service FAQs prior to booking an ADHD Medication Package.

ADHD Service FAQs

The first step to arranging an assessment is by first booking an ADHD Initial Consultation. You can do this by booking online here.
Once your initial consultation is booked, you will be sent questionnaires to complete before your appointment. These must be completed prior to the consultation to ensure we have sufficient information to complete the appointment.
You will be informed in the initial consultation whether a full ADHD Assessment is recommended and you will be contacted to book the assessment. The cost of this is is £1500. If an assessment is not recommended, you will be advised on other routes to access support that may be helpful.
Please note that as per our terms & conditions, missed or cancelled appointments will be charged for in full unless you give us more than us more than 24 hours' notice. If you give us between 24 and 48 hours' notice you will be charged 50% of the fees due.
Once you have paid for the assessment, we will send you a set of questionnaires that must be filled out by a parent/carer and your child’s school before we can book your assessment date with the psychiatrist. This is to ensure we have all the information we need to correctly complete the assessment.
The assessment will last around 2 hours, and a parent/carer is required to be present for the duration of it. You may like the opportunity to speak to the psychiatrist without your child present. If this is the case we would require you to bring an additional adult with you if your child is under 14, as they are not allowed to be left alone in the clinic at any time.
The psychiatrist will discuss their thoughts, and whether they are making a diagnosis of ADHD at the end of the 2 hour assessment. If you do receive a diagnosis of ADHD, you will be provided with details and information on the next steps available to you.
Whether you receive a diagnosis or not, you will be sent a clinical report 2 weeks after your assessment, with details and results of your assessment process.
All of our ADHD assessments follow NICE guidelines and are completed by experienced, UK registered consultant psychiatrists.
While many NHS trusts may be willing to accept private ADHD diagnoses unfortunately some others may not. Each trust will have their own policies and governance to manage this.
We strongly recommend consulting with your GP in the first instance to see if they would accept a private diagnosis and how this may affect your ability to enter into a shared care agreement for medication if you wished to consider this.
If you would like to consider ADHD medication after a diagnosis with our service, this is prescribed as part of a medication package. This consists of 3 appointments which are all booked at the same time.
In your first appointment you will discuss medication options and if suitable, you will be prescribed ADHD medication. You will then attend two review appointments after 4 week intervals in order to discuss how you are finding the medication and dosage.
If the medication is working well, the dosage is right and the prescriber is happy to continue prescribing you this medication, you will then need to come in every 3-6 months for medication reviews or whenever your dose is changed. The frequency of the reviews are decided on a case by case basis.
If you would like to have your card details saved on file we will automatically take payment a few days before your appointment. Please call our reception to have your card details saved securely on our clinic management software.
If you decide that medication is not for you, and you do not need to continue to see our prescriber, we will offer a refund of £300 per follow up appointment that is not used. Our appointment fees are structured to cover the psychiatrists time, so we cannot refund any appointments that have already taken place.
If the medication you have been prescribed does not seem like the right fit, and you would like to amend the dosage or type of medication, you will continue to be seen every 4 weeks until you and the prescriber are happy with the medication and dosage. This is to ensure the medication you are prescribed is the most suitable and effective for you.
Your prescription will be sent to an online pharmacy ‘Cloud RX’. They will process the prescription, and you should expect the medication to be delivered directly to your home address at least 2 working days after your prescription has been provided. You will not be provided with paper prescriptions, as our current pharmacy is online.
The types of medicines prescribed for ADHD are categorised as “controlled drugs” which means they are more regulated than other drugs.
These regulations mean that we need to adhere to certain rules, and also to be sure that the dosage and medication type is managed carefully in order to make sure you get the most benefit from it.
A prescription for stimulant medication must be dispensed directly by the pharmacy within 28 days of the prescription being written, and there are restrictions on how much can be prescribed at a time. You will always need a prescription to be able to get the medication.
You might not be in a position to always be able to pay for your medication, and may want to consider accessing the medication from your GP instead. Whether your GP is willing to enter a ‘shared care agreement’ with a private service, to enable your medication to be accessed through them is at the complete discretion of your GP. If they do not want to enter into a shared care agreement, you will be required to continue paying for your medication continuously. We advise that you give some thought prior to choosing to access ADHD medication as to whether you are willing to maintain the payments yourself.
These medications need to be prescribed initially by a psychiatrist who is a specialist in these types of medicines and the correct dosage. When the best prescription for you has been established and they are happy that everything is going well they may feel able to hand over prescribing to your GP, if your GP is happy to do so. This is called a “shared care agreement.” Following this you will just pay the normal prescription charge at your pharmacy.
If we are able to obtain a shared care agreement with your GP, you will still be required to come for reviews at The Family Treatment Service. This is to ensure your medication and dosage is still a good fit, and so the psychiatrist can support the GP with your care.
Currently there are frequent shortages of ADHD medication that may cause delays to you getting your medication at the right time. Our prescribers will aim to prescribe medication that ‘Cloud RX’ has available in stock, however at times they may become out of stock after the prescription has been sent out. If you are informed by Cloud RX that your medication is out of stock, please initially discuss with Cloud RX if there is anything they can do to help. If not, please get in touch with the clinic to discuss your options. It may be that the prescriber needs to consider prescribing you another medication, which may require another medication review appointment.
You will initially be provided with medication for 28 days. It is essential that you attend your follow up appointments every 28 days, otherwise your next course of medication will not arrive on time. At each review you will be provided with a prescription. If you choose to move to shared care then you will get your prescription from your GP, if you remain at The Family Treatment service you can request repeat prescriptions in between reviews.
There may be times when Cloud RX has questions about your prescription which could delay you getting your medication on time. We will try our best to work with Cloud RX to clarify any details needed and get your medication to you as soon as possible.

Once a young person turns 18 they will have the opportunity to transition from our Child and Adolescent ADHD service to our Adult ADHD service which caters for 18+.
Continuing Titration
If you are currently undergoing titration, our consultant psychiatrist will inform you at your final review with them that your next appointment will be with our adult prescriber. Following this, you will be able to book all future appointments directly with our adult prescriber.
On a Child and Adolescent Shared Care Agreement
If you are on a shared care agreement when you turn 18, you will be invited for a 30 minute review to confirm you are happy with your treatment plan and have your physical health reviewed. A new adult shared care agreement will be created and sent to your GP. You will then be required to have annual reviews thereafter.
Not all assessments will result in a diagnosis. The purpose of an assessment is to most accurately understand and explain your experience, and this may or may not be best explained by ADHD once the assessment is complete.
If you do not get a diagnosis your clinician will explain clearly why ADHD was not possible to diagnose and provide you with a reason that better explains your symptoms. You will still receive a full report with recommendations for support.
Yes, however please be aware that it may not be possible to diagnose.
If ADHD symptoms are observed at home but not supported by sufficient information from the school, it can be more challenging to determine whether the child meets the criteria for an ADHD diagnosis. An assessment can proceed without school input, as it may still provide valuable insights by identifying other potential factors contributing to the child's difficulties. However, it is important to note that not all assessments will result in an ADHD diagnosis.
To make our required identity verification process more efficient and convenient for you, and to ensure consistent verification across our clinical team, we ask for your explicit consent to securely store a copy of your primary identity document (e.g., passport, driving license) on your client file. As part of the full ADHD assessment you will complete the Qb Check. This is an objective, computer based assessment that measures hyperactivity, impulsivity and inattention to aid in the assessment of ADHD.
