Dr Adam Flintoff is a Clinical Psychologist and Psychodynamic Psychotherapist. He has over 10 years’ experience working in the NHS in a range of therapeutic settings, and currently works as a senior psychotherapist in a specialist NHS trauma service at the Tavistock Centre. Adam is a member of Camden and Islington’s Trauma-Informed network and an honorary lecturer on the Clinical Psychology doctoral programme at University College London.
Adam has worked in several specialist settings within the NHS including providing psychotherapy for adolescents, parental mental health work within CAMHS and working with people experiencing medically unexplained symptoms and relational difficulties. He is experienced in working with people across the lifespan and from many different cultural backgrounds. He sees people with a wide range of problem areas including people struggling to understand and manage their emotional experience, problems with relationships, coping with loss, challenges in adjusting to significant changes in life and more enduring mental health difficulties.
Adam has extensive expertise in the area of trauma including supporting individuals who have been involved in isolated traumatic events and working with people who have experienced more complex or repeated episodes of trauma. He regularly runs workshops and psychoeducational sessions for people who have experienced trauma and for people in their support network, such as family members, friends or professionals. Adam is trained in Mentalization Based Therapy (MBT) and currently runs a Trauma Focused and phase-based MBT group in the NHS. Adam is available to work with adolescents, adults and parents.
