Cognitive Assessments at The Family Treatment Service
A cognitive assessment can gain valuable insights into thinking, memory, and problem-solving skills.
Cognitive Assessments
A cognitive assessment can gain valuable insights into thinking, memory, and problem-solving skills which can be helpful for the following concerns:
Child is not thriving or making the expected progress in school
Child has low confidence in learning
School-related anxiety and/or avoidance
Poor attention and concentration
Difficulties with organisational skills
Poor memory
Difficulties with reading, writing, spelling or numeracy
We can offer an IQ and learning needs assessment involving use of the WISC V, the WIAT III UK and DASH (Detailed Assessment of Speed of Handwriting)
These assessments can determine whether or not a child has an intellectual disability or specific learning difficulty, such as dyslexia, which may be impacting a child’s learning, behaviour or experience at school. This could also be helpful if the child has a diagnosed or suspected neurodevelopmental difficulty such as ADHD or ASD, as it can help pinpoint areas for intervention or signpost when neurodevelopmental assessment is required.
Cognitive assessments are priced at £1000
Alongside the cognitive assessment, we are also able to offer an optional add-on Specific Learning Difficulty Assessment. The cost for this is an additional £360.
Educational Support Service
To determine if Cognitive Assessment is appropriate for your child, we offer an initial one hour online appointment with an Educational Psychologist for parents/ carers only. This allows for an in-depth discussion about the child’s developmental history, their strengths and your concerns. This can often be an intervention in itself, in terms of exploring strategies that may be useful. We will also make further recommendations and will provide you with a summary following the appointment, so you can make an informed decision on any next steps you may wish to take for your child. Click the button below to fill out our client registration form and a clinician will be in touch to book your appointment.
